Overview of the stages of the
English school
system

We understand that the English school system can appear complex and difficult to navigate. To help you, we have created a summary of the key components and stages of the English education system below.

Early Years Education (Ages 3-5):

Nursery and Reception classes, often in primary schools or private settings.

Primary Education (Ages 5-11):

Key Stages 1 and 2, typically ages 5-7 (Years 1 & 2) and 7-11 (Years 3-6) respectively.

Secondary Education (Ages 11-16):
